Wednesday's warm, dry and windy weather conditions fanned flames across Starved Rock Country.
A field fire west of Tonica broke out around 3:25 in the afternoon, and, by 4, first responders from about 20 cities and towns had been called out to knock it down.
Earlier, thick black smoke and flames could be seen coming from a fire at Cimco Recycling on West Norris Drive in Ottawa. Multiple agencies responded to that incident. Field and brush fires also broke out south of Marseilles, west of Kinsman, and northeast of Wedron.
A house fire broke out at about 3:00 west of Streator, and that brought help from the Lostant and Grand Ridge fire departments. Winds are expected to calm as we enter a cooler period Thursday.
