It’s a night that many across the valley won’t ever forget, New Year’s Eve 2011 when Westclox caught fire. The man who admitted to starting the blaze is a free man again after more than seven years in prison.
Now 25-years-old, Steven Gallacher of La Salle walked out a free man late last week. As an 18-year-old, he says he made a mistake and was bored when he and a younger teenage boy from Peru lit a boat on fire that was being stored inside the old clock factory. Dozens of firefighters fought the blaze that lasted a full two days. A La Salle firefighter was hurt during the fire which elevated the charges against Gallacher.
The younger defendant in the case also pleaded guilty to arson and was given five years probation and community service. Gallacher’s parole discharge date is in three years.
