Two 16 year old males are facing various charges regarding damage done to the turf at Howard Fellows Stadium Saturday. One is from Peru and the other from La Salle. Both are charged with criminal damage to state supported property, criminal trespass to property and unlawful use of weapons.
Peru Police Chief Doug Bernabei said stadium turf was burning around 5:30am Saturday due to a homemade Molotov cocktail. Police extinguished it and began an investigation almost immediately. Chief Bernabei reported a second incident of a suspicious nature around 7:54pm last night.
Officers found a similar device to the one used early Saturday. The device had been apparently discarded in a parking lot adjacent to the stadium. The two youth are in a secure juvenile detention facility pending an appearance in juvenile court in a few days. Bernabei said the case was ultimately resolved due to alert residents living near the stadium and good old police work
