State Police

We now know some more details about last week’s bizarre accident that shut down part of westbound Interstate 80, but the big question – “Why?” – remains unanswered.

Yesterday, State Police reported that, just after 11:30 last Monday morning, an SUV driven by 69-year-old Edward Getzen of Pewaukee, Wisconsin, was southbound on Interstate 39 approaching I-80. His vehicle left the roadway and entered the center median. The SUV continued south in the median for several hundred feet before dropping off the embankment and onto Interstate 80. He was life-flighted with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. A passenger, 62-year-old Lori Getzen, also of Pewaukee, was injured and taken to an area hospital. The driver was cited for improper lane usage.

Why did it happen? The State Police press release says that’s unknown.
