One of the most recognizable buildings in Peru may soon get a new life.
Developers from the suburbs want to turn the Acropolis Events Center or Amcore Bank Building into the main entrance of affordable apartments for seniors ages 55 and over. GC Housing Development would also buy and demolish the closed Illinois Valley Community Hospital clinic south of the Acropolis to be part of the senior housing complex. Plans call for 45 to 55 one and two bedroom apartments in a three-story building. The developers are the same group behind senior apartments going up near city hall in Ottawa.
This is actually the second group to propose senior apartments in Peru in the last month. The other development would be north of Wenzel Road. City leaders haven’t taken official action on either proposal.
