The Illinois Radio Network reports Illinois high schools have voted to keep football conferences. Schools voted 374 – 241 to rescind a plan to replace conferences with district scheduling. District scheduling had only been approved one year earlier.
Matt Troha, IHSA's assistant executive director, says we are back just as we've always done it. It was thought district scheduling would help mostly stronger programs who struggle to schedule in non-conference opponents. Troha said he expects the debate to continue and, at some point, a revised district proposal could return for a vote.
