At his daily COVID-19 press conference Thursday, Governor JB Pritzker announced he’s secured a federal major-disaster declaration that will allow more funding for hospital and housing capacity as the virus spreads. The declaration also gives the state resources to expand tele-health, to reach more Illinoisans in need of care.
Pritzker said he’s also trying to secure funding that would allow access to FEMA’s individual assistance program, which would give access to more unemployment benefits for those ineligible for state unemployment insurance. And, it would enhance benefits for Illinoisans looking for shelter, food and legal help.
Then the Governor got down to brass tacks. He’s disturbed by the number of people still mixing socially outside their homes. He pointed out that, of course, we are a nation of freedom…
He again urged that everyone restrict gatherings to no more than 10 people, and that we practice social distancing of at least six feet.
