The police dog Palu wasn’t without a job for very long. Two weeks after La Salle Mayor Jeff Grove and the council refused to change a decision to disband the city’s K9 unit, the mayor announced an agreement with the state’s attorney’s office of La Salle County to return Palu and handler Brian Zebron to drug enforcement. While Zebron will still be an officer in La Salle, he and Palu will help a drug enforcement agency serving the entire Illinois Valley with expenses coming out of the county’s drug fund.
Grove says as soon as La Salle County State’s Attorney Karen Donnelly said two weeks ago that she had a funding option for Palu, the city was ready to listen. He says it’s not a knee jerk reaction by the city in reaction to all the public outage over cutting the K9 unit.
