Voters in Streator will have a referendum on their March 17 ballots. The question is whether or not to increase property taxes in order to support library repairs and maintenance. The increase would go from 15 cents per dollar to 23 cents per dollar.

A Streator homeowner had to leave his house late Friday night after discovering a fire. Streator Fire Department's Captain Ryan Reynolds said they arrived just after 11pm at 115 West Washington. Firemen contained the fire to the laundry room after it appears it started in the attic.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded signficant funding to local housing authorities. The Housing Authorityof La Salle County will receive $2.4 million and Bureau County's gets about $563,000. Lee County Housing Authority has a check of coming for $434,000.
