The LaSalle County Board on Thursday approved a new snow-removal policy presented by County Engineer Donald Ernat.
Rather than operate around the clock, snow operations may begin at 4 a.m. and end at 8 p.m. One goal is to make one pass on every road, on every route, by 7 a.m. weekdays and by 8 a.m. on weekends. The county Highway Department won’t be shooting for “bare pavement” on roads. The priority will be to plow and de-ice hills, curves, stop signs and priority areas. And, crews will suspend work if the weather makes it too dangerous.
The board also approved contracts with vendors in Wisconsin and Shorewood to manage electronic-recycling events in 2020. The county has not set dates or locations for the events, but the plan is to avoid causing traffic backups by requiring reservations ahead of drop-offs.
Finally, the board’s expected to vote on a new tax levy and budget later this month. The budget is open for public viewing until Nov. 22 at the county’s website.
