Illinois River Flooding

After overflowing its banks, the Illinois River has crested and is on its way down from Seneca to La Salle. The Illinois Department of Transportation this morning updated its list of emergency road closures due to flooding. For Starved Rock Country:

  • 351 is closed from the Illinois River to La Salle.
  • Illinois 71 is closed for about a two-mile stretch between South Ottawa and Deer Park Township.
  • The Route 18 bridge at Henry is closed.

Locally, at last word from Peru officials, Water Street Closed from Putnam Street to Peru ‘s eastern border. And, the bottom road is closed from Cedar Creek Hill west to the Putnam County Line.  Also, at last word, Dee Bennett Road in Utica remains closed. Yesterday, the Ottawa Police Department shut down the Main Street/ Fox RiverBridge just west of the high school. Officials said the closure is in effect until further notice.
