Things were humming right along at Monday night’s LaSalle City Council meeting. And then it came time for public comments.
Jamie Hicks of LaSalle had a few bones to pick with un-neighborly actions by a few of his neighbors. After he outlined those, he took aim at one member of the council – Boo Herndon. Hicks confronted the Fourth-Ward Alderman about a house Hernon owns near Hicks’ house. Hicks said the house has been in a perennial state of disrepair, and he also claimed that Herndon has been renting the home without a permit for years. Herndon pointed out he’s just had one renter over the years. Hicks fired back.
Hicks also accused Herndon of abusing his power as an alderman. After the meeting, Herdon told reporters…
Herndon also said bad health for 10 months kept him from getting repairs made quickly, and that he has hired a contractor to get the work done.
In other action, the Building Codes Committee will take up Alderman Jerry Reynolds’ proposal to bring down heavy fines on owners of vacant LaSalle buildings who don’t have improvement plans on file with the city.
