The La Salle boy attacked by a pit bull on Monday is recovering well, though he still has very little feeling in his left arm.
Eleven-year-old Esteban Rodriguez is expected to be released from OSF Peoria today. His mom, Mandi, says he'll be getting further care in area facilities and at home. Esteban was outside in the 800 block of O'Conor Avenue Monday night when a neighbor's dog began chasing him. Mandi says Esteban suffered serious wounds to his back and spine, both arms, chest and abdomen. The boyfriend of the pit bull's owner strangled the dog to death to get it to give up the attack.
WLPO listeners have been contacting us, wanting to know what they can do to help the family. You can send donations of any kind to Esteban and Mandi Rodriguez at 1664 Tonti Street in La Salle. Mandi say's they'd welcome anything, but especially right now they need things like gloves, masks, gauze and band-aids. Esteban also likes football and basketball.
Mandi says she and her son are very grateful for everyone's thoughts and prayers.
