Thursday afternoon, at the state’s daily COVID-19 press conference, the Illinois Department of Public Health announced a dramatic jump in virus numbers.
Since Wednesday, 673 more Illinoisans have tested positive for the virus, bringing the state’s total number of victims to 2,538, now spread across 37 counties. Seven victims have died since Wednesday, and the total number of fatalities now is 26. No cases are reported so far in Bureau or Putnam counties.
Department Director, Dr. Ngozi Ezike, says everyone must be vigilant, no matter where they are.
Governor JB Pritzker echoed this concern, urging Illinoisans to keep gatherings to 10 or fewer people, and stay at least six feet from others.
