IHSA said Tuesday that it will defer to the Illinois Department of Public Health, the Illinois State Board of Education, and the Governor’s Office on all of its Return to Play Guidelines moving forward.

IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson pointed out that more consistency is needed between the guidelines for returning to learn and returning to sports. He also noted that some of the IHSA Sports Medicine Advisory Committee and health-department directives directly conflict.

Anderson still believes there is a path to conducting high school athletics in the fall, like the majority of states surrounding Illinois plan to do, but he says that, to make that happen, it’s important to allow the other departments and the Governor’s office to take the lead in setting up the safest and most consistent methods.
