Fall high school sports in Illinois will have postseason action but it will be far from traditional. The IHSA Board has approved modified state tournaments for golf, tennis, swimming and cross country. Each sport will have a one-round, regional geographic competition the week of October 19th. Any school wanting a team or individual competing in the postseason will have to pay a $100 fee to the IHSA. State softball finals in Illinois are moving across the river.
The IHSA Board also has approved moving the finals from East Peoria to the Louisville Slugger Complex in Peoria starting next year. Softball championships will stay at their new venue for five years. East Peoria has hosted the IHSA softball finals since 2001.
And the board also heard from a handful of coaches Monday about implementing a shot clock for both boys and girls basketball. No action was taken. Both college and professional basketball leagues have shot clocks.
