The case of a man accused of killing his baby boy last year has been delayed it seems, by the coronavirus. At a pretrial hearing for 24-year-old Kenneth Herbst of La Salle Friday morning, La Salle County Public Defender Tim Cappellini indicated he’d had trouble meeting with an expert witness who was to travel to the area, but that a meeting can happen next week. Judge H. Chris Ryan rescheduled the hearing for Thursday morning.
Herbst is accused of holding his baby boy’s face into a pillow, causing the two-month-old to die, in March of last year. He’s locked up in LaSalle County Jail, needing 200 thousand dollars to bond out. Herbst has waived his right to a speedy trial.
