As the snow fell, fire crews from across Starved Rock Country fought a fire in Peru.
Just before 4 Saturday morning, a Peru Police Officer on patrol saw smoke coming out of Double D Express on May Road. He reported fire from the north end of the building and heard explosions. Two ladder trucks were used to bring the fire under control about an hour and a half after the initial report by the officer.
The building was filled with vehicles and tires. No foul play is suspected but the cause so far is considered undetermined. The state fire marshal's office has been contacted to help investigate.
