If you live in Ottawa, it may be time to invest in bottled water.
City leaders say they have found elevated levels of lead in drinking water in some homes and buildings. They haven’t said which homes or businesses.
As required by the Environmental Protection Agency, Ottawa has to put a program in place to minimize the lead by April. They are stepping up efforts to treat water and remove any lead that’s in water when it leaves the treatment facility.
Things you can do to reduce exposure includes: running your water to flush out lead; don’t cook with or drink water from the hot water tap; identify and replace plumbing fixtures containing lead; and consider buying bottled water or a filter. If you are concerned about your children being exposed to lead, have them tested.
