Fire at a La Salle property that's being redeveloped caused little damage.
Firefighters were called Wednesday evening to the west end of property across from Beck's Gas. The two story structure, which sits back from Third street, was showing smoke when crews arrived. The fire was knocked down quickly. La Salle Fire Lt. Brian Zeller says the cause is undetermined. Speaking to WLPO News at the scene, property owner Gary Hammers had a different view saying vandals started the fire using remnants of a Christmas tree.
The building is part of property owned by Hammers. Hammers is developing a restaurant, living space and a parking lot. The building in question was, and still is up for demolition very soon. The overall building project is unaffected.
