It's an event Starved Rock Country experienced Monday afternoon. It's a derecho started in western Iowa and steamrolled the Illinois Valley around mid-afternoon. It left evidence of its passing all around. About 21,000 were left without power in LaSalle, Peru and Oglesby. Ottawa had - at one time - 8900. Trees - some the pride of the neighborhood - are ready for the chainsaw. The National Weather Service reports 91 mph gusts overturned a few semis - one at the I-39 Oglesby exit.
It appears LaSalle Peru, Mendota - and as far south as Henry - will be cleaning for, perhaps, two weeks.
