COVID-19 cases at the La Salle Veterans Home have reached what the administrator Angela Mehlbrech calls a “crisis”. She has posted updates to the residents, their families and the staff since the problem began November 1.
In the letter from Sunday, Mehlbrech says there have been twelve additional cases. It continues saying, since the beginning of the crisis, we have had a total of 93 positive residents and 90 positive employees. The statement added that two additional Veterans have died from coronavirus related disease, bringing the number of vets who died from coronavirus-related disease to fifteen.
In a News Tribune weekend story, two staffers, under the condition of anonymity, blame the problem on a combination of unreliable test results and a gap in infection controls.
