The Grateful Dead once sung, “What a long strange trip it’s been.” Folks riding Amtrak from Chicago to Mendota can relate.
The Southwest Chief train that took off from Union Station Monday afternoon stalled out in Mendota for more than six hours because of engine issues. A second engine was called to get the passenger train back moving westward at around 11 Monday night.
The train stopped just short of the Mendota station on the east side of town before 5 in the evening. Many passengers got out of the train and walked around to pass the time.
