There were a lot of motorcycles out this weekend. One ended up being involved in a fatal wreck east of Morris.
The Grundy County Coroner says it was 50-year-old Hiram Jackson of Morris that was pronounced dead late last night. Investigators think Jackson was riding eastbound on Route 6 when for whatever reason he left the road, hit a wooden post of a traffic sign and came to a rest in a ditch. The crash remains under investigation.
Meanwhile 51-year-old William Abens of Sandwich laid injured overnight until someone out for a walk found him in a ditch. Abens told deputies he thinks he crashed his motorcycle at around 10 Friday night and wasn’t found until almost 7 o’clock the next morning. He apparently lost control trying to avoid some animals on a road in DeKalb County. Abens was eventually taken to OSF in Rockford for a leg injury.
