A highlight of this weekend’s Wild Bill Days in Utica is Saturday’s one-man show about Wild Bill Hickok, who was born in Troy Grove and is played by Walt Willey, the Ottawa native who starred on the soap opera All My Children.
But Willey doesn’t just PLAY Wild Bill. He became an expert on the man through long hours of deep research before he wrote the play himself. He said he happened to learn about Hickok’s connection to the area at just the right time.
And he says he wrote the play in modules, so he can pick and choose material for each audience and location.
He jokes that this approach always makes it a longer play when he stages it here in Hickok’s back yard.
The LaSalle County Historical Society is sponsoring Saturday’s play in Utica. Doors open at 6 and showtime is 7. An audience Q-and-A and meet-and-greet follow the show. You can get tickets by calling 815-667-4861, or by clicking here.
