Turkey hunters in the Illinois Valley had a little more success this year than they had a year ago.
Between April 15th and May 16th, 212 turkeys were taken down in Bureau County compared to 182 a year ago. In Putnam County, 43 turkeys met their maker this spring compared to just 9 last year. When it came to La Salle County 115 turkeys were shot down in the past month, down about a dozen from the year before.
Statewide a little more than 15,000 turkeys were killed during the spring season. That’s up about 2,000 from last spring.
