Mendota Police

A threat of violence on social media has police stepping up their presence in Mendota.

The Mendota Police Department Thursday night put out a message that they are aware of a threat made against festival attendees and the police department.  Officers say a 17-year-old from the Chicago area made the threat and that the teen is known by law enforcement.  He’s being sought not only by Illinois Valley law enforcement but also the FBI and Chicago Police Department’s Violent Crime Squad and Counter Terrorism Unit.

You’re being urged to enjoy the Sweet Corn Festival as you normally would while also reporting any suspicious activity.
