Would you have concerns if your city took possession of run down properties in your neighborhood? What if they knocked the homes down?
Those were the concerns brought up during citizen comment at Tuesday night’s Ottawa City Council meeting. A woman living along West Norris Drive asked the council what their plans were for four homes that had recently been demolished all along the same block.
Mayor Bob Eschbach indicated that they don’t have any plans for the lots where the homes had stood. City Engineer David Noble said “there were falling down houses” on the property, and the move was made for public safety. He also said they are currently using funds from a grant to pay for maintenance on the property “for a couple years.”
Noble finished by saying any future plans to re-zone the land would have to go through a full public comment period, but no such plans are in the works at this time.
