It’s now legal for women in Illinois to have partial-birth abortions, and to have abortions for any reason, including sex selection.
Governor JB Pritzker Wednesday signed Senate Bill 25 into law. The Reproductive Health Act also states that in Illinois a fertilized egg, embryo, or fetus does not have independent rights. And, the new law provides insurance requirements to cover abortions.
The Governor proclaimed that, in creating this new law, Illinois is standing with women.
Our state Senator, Republican Sue Rezin, is dismayed by the new law. She put out a statement Wednesday saying – quote – “Taking away all remaining rights for the unborn is not something we should be celebrating. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. This law is extreme, and unsettling. Today is a sad day in Illinois.”
