A scam that targeted pizza joints in the Illinois Valley may have ended after an officer went undercover as a pizza deliverer.
Peru Police Chief Doug Bernabei says in the past week three pizza places in Peru and one in La Salle were given counterfeit one hundred bills by 27-year-old Joshua McKinley who has addresses in Peru and La Salle. McKinley allegedly picked an abandoned house in Peru to have pizza delivered to. He would give the delivery driver a hundred dollar bill and get $80 in change.
When McKinley ordered a pizza Tuesday night, a police detective delivered the pizza and once he got the alleged fake money, other officers hiding in the bushes arrested McKinley. He’s now locked up in the county jail facing a felony forgery charge.
