A man who is public enemy number one in the Illinois Valley is out of custody.
Forty-three-year-old Michael Stuart of Peru spent about 15 minutes in the La Salle County Jail Wednesday afternoon before coming up with the three thousand dollars needed to bond out. He’s charged with two counts of aggravated battery to victims over 60 year’s old and aggravated battery in a public place.
Stuart’s arrest came after a video went viral Wednesday morning on social media. It shows a man shouting at an elderly man on a Peru street. While at times hard to see, it appears the man shoves an elderly man and an older woman.
Peru Police Chief Doug Bernabei says his department responded Sunday to the disturbance call. Initially those involved in the neighborhood dispute reported different accounts of what happened and made allegations against each other. Bernabei says without another independent witness, the state’s attorney’s office said not to make any arrests. He says his department wasn’t aware of the video until early yesterday morning.
