A closed school in La Salle could soon have a new owner.
The city received two bids to buy Jackson School. The highest bidder is Peter Wang with PHP Homes, LLC based in Ottawa at $21,000. Wang would like to turn the school down the street from L-P into office space, apartments and space to store equipment and tools that he uses to maintain properties he owns in Peru, La Salle, Ottawa and Spring Valley.
The second bid is $15,000 from a company called Gold Nugget Properties, LLC out of Missouri. Information on their plans is limited and the city council seemed eager to move forward with the higher bidder.
The La Salle Elementary School District sold the school to the city for $10 last year. The school was closed because of mounting costs to keep it functional. In 2014 it was shut down because of a rat infestation.
