We talk a lot about our first responders, and we honor them frequently. But there’s one group of people who sometimes are overlooked: The people we often talk to first in an emergency, who form the crucial link in the rescue chain.

This week is National Public-Safety-Telecommunicators Week. The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials sets aside the second week of April every hear to honor the thousands of men and women who respond to emergency calls, dispatch emergency professionals and equipment, and give life-saving assistance in times of crisis.
