Suddenly, Mendota Police have a lot going on: two separate shooting incidents in six days and a social media threat. The latest shooting happened Saturday evening when a West Chicago man was shot in the leg. The wound is not considered life threatening.
It happened near 5th Avenue and 6th street with police being notified around 8:45pm. Officers talked with the 47-year old man at OSF St. Paul's; but police are not releasing his name at this time.
Police Chief Greg Kellen states that this incident is not connected with the shots fired last Sunday morning on Jefferson street in front of a bar. It is also not related to threats left on a social network by a 17-year old aimed at Sweet Corn Festival attendees and the Mendota Police.
