For the second straight Monday night, firefighters were called about a fire at Illinois Valley Minerals on the southeast side of Tonica.
A smoke detector went off a little after 1 o’clock Tuesday morning at the business along North 18th Road. Tonica firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames coming out of a building on the property. They immediately put the call out for mutual aid from several fire departments.
They had the fire under control by about 3 o’clock. Nobody was hurt. The cause is being looked into by the state fire marshal’s office.
Last week’s fire at Illinois Valley Minerals involved a couple pallets of cardboard that caught fire.
