A man charged with arson in Peru made his initial court appearance.

Bond was set at $100,000 for 58-year-old Salvatore Fiumefreddo of Peru.  He’s still jailed and is due back in court with a public defender at his side on June 14th

He is charged with intentionally setting the home at 1628 Schuyler Street on fire Wednesday afternoon.  According to court records, Fiumefreddo lived at that home.  Peru Police have said a relative of his rents the house on Schuyler Street.

Peru Police were called to the home Wednesday afternoon in regards to suspicious activity.  When they arrived they saw smoke and flames coming from the one-story house.  Firefighters quickly knocked the fire down although extensive damage was done to the home.  Thankfully no one was hurt.

Peru Police Chief Doug Bernabei credits neighbors with providing critical information to the case.
